Gluten Free Mint Hot Chocolate

I’m just going to say it – I LOVE holiday themed foods and drinks. ALL KINDS! Pumpkin, Mint, Gingerbread, RUM – you name it!

I especially love hot drinks though. Now, combine hot drinks with mint?? I have to have it!

My kids are HUGE fans of making homemade hot chocolate year round, but they really enjoy the holiday season when I spice them up with flavors and switch up regular chocolate for white chocolate!

Such a treat!

Is Mint Extract and Peppermint Extract the Same?

No, they are not the same. They are close though.

The main difference (generally) is that peppermint extract is only peppermint. Whereas mint extract can be a combination of different flavors. Usually, it is made up of peppermint and spearmint.

Can I Substitute the Flavor?

You most certainly can! Have fun and spice it up!

Toppings for Mint Hot Chocolate

I like to plop some whipped cream and sprinkles on top! You can buy premade whipped cream or you can make your own. My favorite is this homemade whipped cream or even this peppermint whipped cream!

Have fun with the toppings!

Is Hot Chocolate Gluten Free?

Most hot chocolate by itself is gluten free, but there are some companies that process their hot chocolate on shared equipment.

There are brands that are considered safe (for celiac), BUT if you make it yourself then you know exactly what goes into it!

This mint hot chocolate is most certainly gluten free!

How to Make Gluten Free Mint Hot Chocolate

Are you ready for how simple this is?

Add milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, white chocolate and mint extract into the bowl of a slow cooker or Instant Pot.

Set the slow cooker to low and cook for two hours, stirring every 15-20 minutes to combine the ingredients and incorporate the chocolate chips as they melt.

(optional) Once the chocolate chips are fully melted, add green food coloring and stir to combine. Continue adding drops of food coloring until the desired shade is reached.

Serve warm and Enjoy!
