Fried Rice with Yum Yum Sauce
Rice is kind of a staple in our house with the kiddos! I used to use our rice cooker all the time and it makes great rice. Plain rice, but still good. I wanted to spice it up a bit and make a delicious fried rice with yum yum sauce. Doesn’t that just SOUND delicious?
I have now switched to making my rice in a frying pan, over the stove and I have a feeling you will too! Because this rice is not only fluffy, but it is also fully flavored and so easy to make.
Sometimes I will make a big batch of this seasoned brown rice and just heat it up for lunch or dinner the next time. It holds its shape, flavor, and texture even as leftovers!

How to Store Gluten Free Rice?
You will want to store this delicious rice in an airtight, glass container. Keep it nice and cold and in the fridge.
I don’t tend to keep rice TOO long in the fridge, especially if it has a sauce. But this rice will keep its shape, texture and flavor for at least 3-4 days.
Is Brown Yum Yum Rice Gluten Free?
Yes! Rice is naturally gluten free. Always be leary of cross-contamination as with all products.
Now, if you purchase rice in a box that has a spice mix with it, there is a good chance that there will be gluten in there somewhere.
That is where this delicious fried rice with yum yum sauce comes in handy because you can make your own flavorful rice (and sauce) at home!

What is Yum Yum Sauce?
Well, Google is going to overwhelm you with this one. Sometimes it is mayo-based. Other times it is chicken stock-based. Sometimes it is spicy. Other times it has minimal spice.
Clear as mud, right?
This particular yum yum sauce is a mild blend of chicken stock, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Super easy and especially tasty!

Why Do You Need to Soak Rice?
When you soak rice, it does a few things. First, it jump starts the process of absorbing the water and will ultimately speed up the cooking process by a bit. Don’t you hate it when you think your rice is done, you serve it to your family and it is still partially crunchy? Yeah, me too!
It also helps to remove the outer layer of starch and will make it less likely to be sticky. We want fluffy rice, not sticky rice! Sticky rice is a whole other recipe!
AND, personally, I think it makes it taste better too!
How to Make Gluten Free Brown Yum Yum Rice
The first thing you want to do is to soak your rice. I usually just add 1 cup of brown rice to a large glass measuring cup and then fill it up with water.
Let it soak for at least 30 minutes.

Once the rice is done soaking, drain and set aside.
Get a medium frying pan out and add sesame oil over medium heat. Make sure it is a pan that has a lid!

Add onions and saute until they are tender. This normally only takes 3-5 minutes.
Add brown rice, Italian Seasoning, garlic, salt and pepper. Stir well to coat the rice with oil.

Now you will want to add chicken stock to the frying pan and mix well.

Bring to a boil, and then reduce heat to medium-low and cover. Simmer until liquid is absorbed. About 30-40 minutes.
Let stand covered off heat until ready to serve, but at least for 5 minutes.
Fluff and serve.
